PRESCRIPTION WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATIONS: COMPOUNDED SEMAGLUTIDE AND TIRZEPATIDE
Now North Shore Med Spa offers two options for prescription weight loss. Both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are once-weekly injectable medications that can be used along with lifestyle changes to significantly reduce weight. We have programs that offer medically supervised, supportive medication administration.
Both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are indicated for long-term weight management for adults with BMI greater than 25. They’re in a class of drugs called GLP-1 agonists, which mimic a hormone that helps reduce food intake and appetite. Both medications also work by slowing gastric emptying, which helps you to feel fuller for longer. Semaglutide and Tirzepatide also stabilize blood glucose levels, which can also help cravings and reduce health risks associated with elevated blood glucose and insulin resistance.

Other than lowering blood sugar levels and reducing weight, studies show that GLP-1 agonists may have other potential benefits, like:
- Lowering blood pressure
- Improving lipid disorders
- Improving fatty liver disease
- Reducing your risk of heart disease and kidney disease
Semaglutide offers adults a beneficial, FDA-approved treatment option for chronic weight management. This once-per-week injection is specifically designed for adults who experience weight-related conditions, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. The injection often benefits patients who struggle to control their food intake. We see an average of 1.5-2 pounds lost per week with our clientele.
Semaglutide
We offer a 5-month protocol, with once-weekly subcutaneous doses. All our monthly packages include B12 shots once a week. Please schedule an appointment once weekly for your treatment in the clinic.
Semaglutide imitates a human hormone produced naturally by the gut, pancreas, and nervous system (GLP-1). The hormone targets areas of the brain that manage appetite, create a feeling of fullness, and enhance insulin production.

Rarely, severe side effects have been reported, such as pancreatitis, medullary thyroid cancer, acute (sudden) kidney injury, and worsening diabetes-related retinopathy.
Tirzepatide
We offer a 5-month protocol, with once-weekly subcutaneous doses. All our monthly packages include B12 shots once a week. Please schedule an appointment once weekly for your treatment in the clinic.
Tirzepatide imitates a human hormone produced naturally by the gut, pancreas, and nervous system (GLP-1). The hormone targets areas of the brain that manage appetite, create a feeling of fullness, and enhance insulin production. It also imitates a second hormone, called GIP, which along with reducing appetite, may also improve how the body breaks down sugar and fat. Tirzepatide also works by stabilizing blood sugars immediately after eating.
A phase 3 clinical trial found a high dose of tripeptide helped patients lose an average of 22.5% of their body weight, or about 52 pounds, which is better than any medication currently on the market. One of the drawbacks to Tirzepatide is the price, as it is a very expensive medication. However, we believe that investing in your health and wellness is well worth it!

Does it hurt to self-inject the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?
You will self-inject the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide using a very small insulin-sized syringe/needle. At your consultation, we will teach you how to properly draw up and administer the Semaglutide or Tirzepatide. The injection goes into the subcutaneous tissue around your stomach. It feels like a little pinch when the small needle goes in, so it is not very painful. If you prefer not to self-inject, you can have an adult family member inject your Semaglutide or Tirzepatide or opt for our “in-office” program.
What’s The Difference Between Semaglutide And Tirzepatide
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are both injectable medications used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but they work in slightly different ways.
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which means that it works by mimicking the effects of GLP-1, a hormone produced in the gut that stimulates insulin secretion, reduces glucagon secretion, and slows down gastric emptying. By activating GLP-1 receptors, semaglutide helps to lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss.
Tirzepatide, on the other hand, is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist. In addition to activating GLP-1 receptors like Semaglutide, it also activates GIP receptors, which stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas in response to food intake.
The choice between the two medications may depend on the individual patient’s needs and preferences, as well as their response to the medication.
