Many of the wrinkles we see on our face are due to the dynamic facial expressions we perform every day, often without conscious awareness. These dynamic wrinkles are expression lines that may appear as folds when the skin is not moving, and deepen with facial movements or expressions. Static wrinkles are visible at all times and do not change in appearance with facial movements. At North Shore Medical Spa, we provide wrinkle reduction treatment for both static and dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are best addressed with Botox® therapy, while static wrinkles are treated with two types of laser resurfacing – Microlaser Peel and Laser Skin Resurfacing.

Wrinkle Reduction

MicroLaserPeel®

MicroLaserPeel (MLP) is an epidermal laser peel (4 – 50 microns) that precisely ablates or removes the outermost layers of the skin resulting in an improvement of fine lines and wrinkles, reduction of superficial brown spots and an overall improvement in the appearance of skin.

The MLP, 4-50 microns in selected depth, will not fully penetrate the epidermal barrier of the skin. Therefore the safety, shortened recovery time, and ease of care with these procedures produce a treatment that is preferred by many patients and physicians.

The epidermis is a robust and resilient structure with an average thickness, on the face, of about 110 microns. It functions as a physical barrier to protect the deeper dermis, and retain the skin’s hydration. It is often the source of fine lines and discolorations in aging skin.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Resurfacing is a dermal laser peel (50 microns and beyond) that precisely removes layers of the skin resulting in an improvement of deeper lines and wrinkles, acne scars and an overall improvement in the appearance of skin.

The dermis is a thick layer of fibrous and elastic tissue that gives the skin its flexibility and strength. The dermis lies immediately underneath the epidermis and is about four times thicker. The dermis contains nerve endings, sweat glands and oil glands, hair follicles, and blood vessels.
